What a winter!

It's amazing for those of you who have read this blog over the past month, to see the absolute see-saw of a winter we have had here in Camlachie!  A month ago, it was the storm of a century, followed by temperatures in the teens and rain.  Now, two weeks later, it was been nothing but snow!  Oh, and what is this I see out my window right now?  Ahh, rain!  Perfect!  These up and down temperature swings with mixed precipitation is never a good thing for turf, but only time will tell!

Last week I was fortunate enough to attend the Ontario Golf Course Management show in Windsor.  It was a wonderful week filled with many educational topics, with the main topic always resorting back to IPM in some way shape or form.  As I have mentioned earlier, the implementation of the IPM program by our current provincial government has not been well received by the golf industry.  There are still a lot of un-resolved issues with the program, such as the fact that 20% of Ontario Golf Courses in Ontario are not in compliance by having not entered the program at all.  Unfortunately, there seems to be more questions than answers at the moment!  Fortunately, we here at Sawmill Creek have been entered into the program for well over two years now, and have just about completed Level 2 of the program.

In a final note, I would like to pass on a bit of news about my personal golf career.  I received word at the end of last season that I had received certification as an Accredited Golf Superintendent with the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association.  This was a process I commenced two years ago, in which there were several steps such as the completion of a written exam.  There are a little more than 100 AGS designated Golf Superintendents in the country, of which I am now proud to say I am one of!

As always, if you ever have any questions, feel free to contact me!
